And according to how Elisabetta Canalis describes their 1-year-old relationship in the latest issue of Italian Vanity Fair, he's playing the role of sweet, supportive boyfriend perfettamente.
"The idea of being so loved is overwhelming," the 31-year-old model says in the September cover story. "George has given color back to my life. I feel great, I am happy like I was when I was 18 years old."
Is there anything she doesn't love about being on Clooney's arm?
"It might seem a cliché, but unfortunately it is true: the Italians never support their own citizens who earn an opportunity or a recognition abroad," Canalis tells VF, referring to the inevitable trouble-in-paradise stories that pop up once in awhile.
"I don't expect to be celebrated, but neither do I expect the newspapers of our country to use as a reference point a gossip blog which is full of insults, racism and violence."
"I did not feel offended" about being the target of so many negative stories. "It's absurd, there is no point in giving it any importance."
Not that the rumors never get to her, of course. She's only human, albeit a human who's landed Clooney for the time being.
"I sometimes feel insecure, but if you are loved then you always feel great," Cannalis says. "[George] reassures me all the time. He is very close. I feel more embraced than ever before."
''I know some women, very high profile women, who have taken his picture off their computer desktop," she says. "Maybe I should not get so stressed over it. At the end though the best way to confront this envy is to be happy, but it's just that they won't forgive."
True, you can't expect Clooney's nuttiest fans to automatically embrace the latest woman rumored to be the one who will finally make the longtime bachelor settle down again.
