GLAAD Honors Brothers & Sisters, Parks and Recreation

    Brothers and Sisters ABC/SCOTT GARFIELD

Maybe Rob Lowe is the secret to making GLAAD smile.

Brothers & Sisters and Parks and Recreation were among the television shows recognized by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation last night in New York.

Brothers & Sisters, currently starring Lowe, was named Best Drama at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards, while Amy Poehler's Parks and Recreation, which Lowe joins this year, won for best individual episode. The award show honors progressive portrayals of LGBT characters and treatment of relevant issues in TV, film, theater and journalism.

Other winners include The Oprah Winfrey Show, the ABC soap opera One Life to Live and MSNBC's The Rachel Maddow Show.

The View's Joy Behar took home the Excellence in Media Award. Sex and the City's Cynthia Nixon received the Vito Russo Award, which is given to an openly gay media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for the gay community.

Additional awards will be presented in Los Angeles on April 17 and in San Francisco on June 5.
