Ryan O'Neal is determined to add one more chapter to his real-life love story with Farrah Fawcett.

"I've asked her to marry me, again, and she's agreed," O'Neal tells Barbara Walters for 20/20.

Her health, however, continues to deteriorate. O'Neal's latest comments come amid reports that the Charlie's Angels actress has been back in the hospital.

"We will [wed] as soon as she can say, 'Yes.' Maybe we can just nod her head," he says. "I promise you we will…absolutely."

O'Neal, 68, and Fawcett, 62, have been together for the better part of 25 years, but the Love Story star admits that getting her to accept his proposal took more than a few attempts.

"I used to ask her to marry me all the time, but…it just got to be a joke, you know. We just joked about it."

They continue joking as they discuss what they'll wear on the big day. O'Neal plans to dress "like a gigolo," with "a thin mustache and slicked-back hair."

One thing he doesn't joke about: his love for his bride-to-be.

"I know this, that in the last two years I loved her more than I've ever loved her—ever," he told the Today show last month. "She's so much more of a woman and a powerful, courageous, fearless…all those adjectives. And I look at her with awe."
