Big-time jewelry theft isn't just something that happens in the movies.
A reported $1 million worth of Chopard jewels were stolen from the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, local police confirmed Friday to the BBC.
The jewels, which were intended to be loaned to celebrities to wear on the red carpet, were reportedly swiped from a safe in the Novotel Hotel room of one of the Swiss jeweler's employees.
Ironically, the heist occurred the same day The Bling Ring, a film based on a Los Angeles group of teens who stole from celeb homes, premiered at the film festival.
A Chopard spokeswoman told The Hollywood Reporter she had only just learned about the burglary.
Mon dieu! Hope they catch the crook.
