InstagramKris Jenner says she wants the "very best" for Lamar Odom, who made headlines this week with some personal turmoil, adding that he is like her "son."
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians matriarch made her comments on the Australian radio show Kylie and Jackie O Friday, days after the former NBA player, her daughter Khloe Kardashian's ex, was reportedly removed from a plane after allegedly boarding it drunk and throwing up. Odom, who has been in recovery following a drug overdose in October, has not commented about the incident.
"I don't know what happened. It was a big surprise to me," Kris said. "All I can say is I just want the very best for him because he's like my son. He's a part of my family and I adore him. He's the best. He's the best! He's the greatest guy in the world and anybody that knows him will tell you the same thing."
Kris said she talks to Odom "quite a bit" but hasn't spoken to him in recent days.
"You just want the best for anyone that you love," she said. "I think that what I have learned through all of this is that anybody who's struggled with addiction, it's a disease and I've learned a lot...you can't judge somebody else unless you're really walking in their shoes and that's what I've learned."
Kris also talked about her son, Rob Kardashian, who is expecting his first child with fiancé Blac Chyna.
"I am excited," she said. "That kid, he just never ceases to surprise me."
The couple had announced their engagement and Blac Chyna's pregnancy on Instagram. Kris has said she was "shocked" to learn about her son's engagement through social media.
"That was kind of a very interesting way to find out in today's social media whirlwind," she said on Kyle and Jackie O. "But, you know, he's happy, and if he's happy, I'm happy."
Rob largely stayed away from the limelight for more than a year before surfacing in public again earlier this year, when he stepped out with then-new girlfriend Blac Chyna. She has been credited with helping him lose weight and adopting a healthier lifestyle.
"I feel like he is [out of that slump] and I feel like it's definitely a blessing that he's back to the old Rob that we all know and love," Kris said. "I think that he's in a very good place right now and he's more comfortable in his own skin and he's back to being the old Rob. The old Rob is so funny and so engaging and so charming and such a wonderful guy. And to see that disappear for a minute broke my heart. So to have him in this happy place, it means everything."
"You know it's that old saying, 'You're only as happy as your least happy child,' and it's so true," she added. "I never understood it until now."
Kris also discussed daughter Kylie Jenner's relationship with Tyga. The two recently got back together after a second short breakup.
"He's such a great guy and such a great friend of the family," she said. "You know we all love him."
Kris also talked about her ex, Caitlyn Jenner. There was some drama between the two amid their divorce and following Caitlyn's transition to becoming a woman earlier this year but the two later became friendly again and have reunited at family events.
"We're friends and [I'm] very happy for her and for the evolution of Caitlyn," Kris said. "Everything's really in a very good place right now."
Kris has also changed her mind about not being a Jenner anymore. On an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians that aired in May, she tells Khloe she is ready to change her last name back to Kardashian.
"I think that out of respect for Kendall and Kylie, and it happens to be two younger girls who have an amazing dad and yeah, I think I'm just going to stay right where I am," she said on Kyle and Jackie O. "It sounded like a good idea for a minute. You have to just respect the relationship of the entire family and I'm too busy these days to worry about what my last name is."
