The Mindy Project is back in action! Mindy Kaling took to Twitter to announce the show was officially back in production. Along with the announcement, she dropped some season four guest star news.
E! News has confirmed former Dancing With the Stars cohost Brooke Burke will be playing herself in the episode. Meanwhile, Togetherness star Mark Duplass and Transparent's Jay Duplass are back as the Deslaurier brothers/midwives.
But where's Chris Messina's name?! Relax. You may recall season three ended with her character, Danny, jetting off to meet Mindy's parents. And Kaling answered a fan on Twitter, confirming Messina and Ed Weeks start tomorrow. PHEW.
The Mindy Project is giving viewers a Sliding Doors-inspired episode for its big premiere on Hulu with some big name guest stars. In the alternate reality, Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play Mindy's husband Matt, a Bravo reality show produce. E! News has confirmed Freida Pinto will play herself, a love interest for Danny. And here's another reminder: It's an alternate reality, so put down those pitchforks!
EW first reported Pinto's casting.
The Mindy Project was canceled by Fox after three seasons, but Hulu swooped in and saved the fan-favorite comedy. Sourced confirmed to us producer Universal Television and Hulu were in talks with a plan before the Fox cancellation became official. The streaming service ordered 26 episodes.
"Mindy has been a beloved member of the Hulu family, so this deal is a natural extension of our relationship," Craig Erwich, senior vice president and head of content at Hulu, said in a statement. "With so many of her fans already catching up and tuning in to the series on Hulu, we know her millions of fans will be eager to find out what Mindy has in store for the next chapter."
(E! and Universal Television are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
