Common is clearing up any confusion—he and Regina Hall are just buddies.
The Oscar-winning rapper has been romantically linked to his Barbershop: The Next Cut co-star in recent reports, some claiming they've been secretly dating for nearly a year. However, he shot down the rumors loud and clear during a sit-down with The Breakfast Club on Wednesday, including false allegations that he wrote his track "Lovestar" about her.
"That's just my people—that's just my buddy," he said during the radio interview. "We never were in that space—you know, that's just like somebody I care about as a friend. We worked together and right now I'm just single, so."
After the co-hosts teased him about the swirling gossip and blog fodder, Common doubled down on his stance. "It was just like you know point blank just friends," he said. "She's funny, super cool, beautiful."
However, the co-hosts taunted him further when they mentioned that Hall said she "had a man" when she was on the show.
"I don't know," Common responded. "She probably does, but that's my buddy. I'm single, so you know."
While according to the star, they were never involved in that way, Common keeps the peace with his exes. "We still cool," he said during the interview. "It's all love."
As a recent example, when his former flame Serena Williams appeared in Beyoncé's music video for "Sorry," he paid her a compliment.
"I tell her she look good, like 'Yo, you snapped in that!'"
