The new Star Trek movie isn't due out until next May, but director J.J. Abrams recently dropped a few scoopy tidbits to E! News. And fans attending Comic-Con in San Diego next week can get their hands on four new posters (at left, all put together), with slick pics of Eric Bana, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine.

When we caught Abrams at the Television Critics Association tour this week, he talked about his franchise reboot and the early days of Spock, Kirk, Uhura and the Enterprise. Here's the deal:

First of all, Vulcan logic-freak Spock, as portrayed by Heroes baddie Quinto, is now, apparently, sexy. "If Zachary's your cup of tea, yes," Abrams said. "[He] brought a gravity and an incredible sense of humor, which is a wonderful combination, because Spock's character is deceivingly complicated."

So what else is Abrams cooking up? "I never saw how Kirk and Spock became so connected," he said. "That's what this movie does, and it does it with the entire family of the Enterprise. It's not really about the visual effects."

Right, because the real world has already surpassed most of the gadgets and technology from Trek's fictional 23rd century.

"We all have the iPhone, which does more than the [Star Trek] communicator," Abrams said. "There's a kind of kitschy quality that must go, if it's going to be something you believe is real. Our Star Trek is not parody."

Good news! Also, look for the new Apple iTeleporter in a store near you.
