Paula Abdul's Fortunetelling Talents

Paula judges Jason Castro's second song before he even sings a note

American Idol judge Paula Abdul reminded us all last night why we continue to watch this glorified karaoke show. It's definitely not that Archuleta kid. (Sorry, he's just waaay too creepy!)

After the five remaining contestants performed the first of their two Neil Diamond songs, the judges offered up their feedback...and this is where Paula steps into the twilight zone.

"Jason [Castro], first song, I loved hearing your lower register, which we never really hear," said Paula. "Um, the second song, I felt like your usual charm wasn't—it was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty. The two songs made me feel like you're not fighting hard enough to get into the top four."

Fortunately, Randy Jackson was there to remind her that Jason—like everyone else—had only belted out one song so far that evening.

To which Paula replied, inexplicably: "Oh my god, I thought you sang twice! You know, this is hard!"

Even Ryan Seacrest amiably tried to make light of the awkward situation, adding: "You're seeing the future, baby."

Yeah, well, we're peering into Paula's future...and it ain't pretty.
