Lost: Terry O'Quinn

ABC/Mario Perez

Huh?! What the?! How was that?!

Hey, remind me not to hang out in a smoke lodge before watching Lost. ‘Cause the weirdest thing happened to me while experiencing last night’s episode. Everything was…different.

Even though, in the script, Kiele Sanchez and Rodrigo Santoro (the newcomers) had all sorts of things to do in this episode—and another particular couple everyone seems to like also kissed—none of that actually happened last night. Bizarre, no?

Mind you, it’s entirely possible these things were cut out of the episode for time and still will be shown in the future, so read this only if you want to know. But according to the script, Niki and Paolo were supposed to be caught having sex in Jack’s tent, Claire and Charlie were supposed to kiss and Locke was supposed to have fallen out of that tree along with Eko’s stick.

I suppose that’s all neither here nor there, but I do find it interesting, and it also should explain the teases I gave you earlier.

More important, I personally thought the episode was bloody good. The dream sequence was fantastic, and while the polar bear in the cave did remind me a bit of the Matterhorn ride at Disneyland, there’s no happier place on Earth, and I’m gonna roll with it—because last night seemed a throwback to classic Lost, which I love

So, what did we learn?

For starters, Desmond can either read minds or see the future. I personally can’t think of another logical explanation for the fact that he knew Locke would make that speech about saving his friends. (Unless he’d seen the script, but then he also would have been high-fiving Paolo.) Clearly, something is up with the space-time continuum on that island. And I’m expecting to see Future Hiro any second.

The question is whether Charlie and Eko will have any Hulk-like abilities after imploding with the crash, and that still remains to be seen.

On a separate note, Ian Somerhalder was back and dead sexy. Literally. (Does your hair grow on the island even if you’re dead? Yet another mystery to solve.) And don’t forget the predictions he made in the dream, which, according to what I’ve heard, do ring true:

  • Claire and Charlie are fine...for now.
  • Sayid will take care of Jin and Sun.
  • Desmond is taking care of himself.
  • Sawyer, Kate, and Jack are beyond Locke's help.
  • Hurley will be fine.

Now, let’s get a little spoilery and talk about what’s coming up in next week’s episode…

  • Sawyer will flash back, and we’ll learn something about his role in this world.
  • Sawyer is going to have a very bad day (as you saw from the promo), and Kate will be mostly clueless as to why.
  • Jack will start to play Juliet. (No, there is not a “with” missing there.)
  • Niki will talk to Desmond. (If it doesn't get cut out.)
  • Henry will have a bizarre reveal to Sawyer that, if true, will change what we know about Lost island.

Can’t wait!
