UPDATE: Have to take a victory lap on Iron Man's $100 million opening. I called it, too, on the nose. I've been covering this movie for more than two years, my entire time at E!, and I'm happy to see it do another $6.5 million Monday, the third-highest Monday following opening weekend ever.

Good sign for the industry, right? Event movies work. They are the lifeblood of the business. When done right, as with this one, they can be the pinnacle of moviemaking.

Keep reading to see how I called it on Friday...

My Call: Finally! Summer movie season is here, and things don't get any bigger than Iron Man. Not only does it feature an all-star cast, but it's directed by the one and only Jon Favreau.

Now, like Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role, Favreau was not the obvious choice to helm such a massive film. But look at his résuméwrote Swingers, directed Made, Elf and Zathura—and you'll see him developing into an accomplished filmmaker. And he does not disappoint Iron fans—or newcomers.

So after a slow, slow April, Hollywood needs a hit, and it'll have one. The film is "tracking" bigger than Transformers did last year, so look for it to come in this weekend at a massive $100 million.

Yep, I said it. My call: hundred million bucks, kicking off what'll easily be one of the biggest summers ever at the movies. Don't think so? Prove me wrong in the comments!
