Brittany Murphy, Clueless, Just Married, Uptown Girls

Crazy to think that Brittany Murphy's gone at all, let alone that it's been six years since she tragically passed away when she was only 32.

We've been thinking about her a lot this year, what with Clueless having marked its 20th anniversary and it being one of the greatest movies ever and all. And we realized that, while there's no shame in Tai being the crowning jewel of her career, Murphy was someone to watch all the time, whether she was keeping a secret in Don't Say a Word, making us cry in Girl, Interrupted, annoying us in Eight Mile or just being adorable again in Uptown Girls.

Today would have been her 38th birthday and, while this could easily be an all-Clueless list, here's a look back at some of Brittany Murphy's most memorable movie moments from her too-short career:

Clueless, 1995: Oh, that was way harsh, Tai.

Drive, 1997: Before Ryan Gosling made a rather memorable movie of the same name, Murphy was the love interest named Deliverance(!) of a super-human on the run from some hired assassins in this cult action favorite. And yes, that's the Chairman from Iron Chef America.

Drop Dead Gorgeous, 1999: Lisa, who's really too nice for the cut-throat pageant world, tells her dad what's what about her brother, Peter.

Girl, Interrupted, 1999: This whole movie broke our hearts, but the troubled Daisy—who prefers to eat her dad's rotisserie chicken in her room for a reason—was especially tragic.

Sidewalks of New York, 2001: Brittany's NYU student and coffee shop waitress is romanced by David Krumholtz in this ensemble rom-com about six couples finding love and navigating relationships in the Big Apple.

Don't Say a Word, 2001: As a psychiatric patient with a secret that some scary criminals will kill to get their hands on, Murphy easily stole her scenes in the Michael Douglas thriller and had one of the creepiest trailer tag lines.

Just Married, 2003: Alongside then-real-life beau Ashton Kutcher, the newlyweds' attempt to join the mile-high club goes awry as they embark on a roach-and mishap-filled European honeymoon.

Uptown Girls, 2003: Free spirit nanny Molly learns a few life lessons from her 8-year-old charge played by the ever-precocious Dakota Fanning—and it turns out that the 8-year-old doesn't know everything and learns a little from Molly too.

8 Mile, 2003: We can't exactly get behind Rabbit and Alex 'cause of, well, you know...but she's right on when she encourages his career.

Sin City, 2005: Shellie is one of the many memorable rough-talking femme fatales in the big-screen adaptation of Frank Miller's graphic novel.

Happy Feet, 2006: Gloria has no trouble with her heartsong in the best blockbuster animated musical about penguins of all time.

Something Wicked, 2009: In what ended up being Murphy's final role, she's a psychiatrist who starts to get on board after her patient, who just suffered a horrible trauma, becomes convinced she's being stalked. The film actually wasn't released until 2014, nearly five years after the star's death.
