Neil Patrick Harris has a fresh take on the How I Met Your Mother series finale. Yes, we're still thinking and talking about it just like you.

Harris stops by Bravo's Inside the Actors Studio on Thursday, Feb. 12 and talks about the controversial finale with host James Lipton. His take on Barney and Robin may make you think twice about all the grumbling you did.

"I loved the ending, yeah," Harris tells Lipton in the exclusive clip below. "[Robin and Barney] didn't belong together. She was meant to be with Ted…I loved the circles about the show and I love that whole season nine was trying to want them to be together and thinking that they're perfect together."

We all remember what happened: Ted (Josh Radnor) met the mother (Cristin Milioti), they got married, they had kids, she got sick and died. After an all-season wedding, Robin (Cobie Smulders) and Barney split up and she gets with Ted in the end.

"I would have loved for them to end up together, but it's not in Barney's DNA to be together with her or the same person, so he leaves her and ends up being crazy and wanting to be even more insane and shag more people," Harris says.

Barney ends up having a one-night stand that results in the true love of his life: his daughter. "That is the one woman he commits his life to," Harris says. "I really valued what that meant for Barney Stinson. I just don't think there's an adult female that will tame him, and yet a great conclusion to his journey that a woman—a female—ends up taming him and taking his heart."

Now we know this may not ease all the anguish How I Met Your Mother's finale created inside of you, but it's a start, right.

Inside the Actors Studio with Neil Patrick Harris airs Thursday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. on Bravo.

(E! and Bravo are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
