"This was one of the unusual moments when Rihanna wasn't performing at an award show so we wanted to be a little laid back with her look. Once she picked her dress, we decided to go for long, flowing, big waves—voluminous," said hairstylist Yusef Williams.
After curling her hair with a 1-inch wand, and flat-ironing the roots from top to ear to create contrast, Yusef applied dry texturizing foam throughout the hair for separation and texture. He then finished the look off with hairspray for hold.

Once Taraji's hair was cut and straight, the hairstylist applied hair serum to get her tresses extra slick and shiny. He then added "an excessive amount black bobby pins to secure her hair on either side, stacking them and crossing them over one another to from a unique and playful design," he added.
