"We collated racks and racks of clothes," the film's costume designer Jill Taylor said of Emilia's colorful attire. "We just played really."
Lou wears a pastel jumper sweater and silk scarf for a bike ride along a river. "She's written in the book as this quirky girl who loves clothes," Taylor said.
Emilia's look for a day at a horse-racing track included a ponytail (natch!) and a jacket and horse-printed shirt found at a costume house.
This green dress was a perfect match for Lou and Will's tropical getaway.
Taylor accessorized the overalls with duck pins that she's owned since she was a fashion student in 1980.
How adorable is this surfers print dress?
A dress worn to a wedding was one of the few pieces made especially for the movie.
Taylor and her team bought dozens of bumblebee tights before finding the right pair.
The red dress Lou wears to a classical musical concert with Will was inspired by a 1950s prom dress. "That's a special dress because it's her trying to conform a little to Will's world," Taylor said. "She looked so pretty in that dress."
