Most of the good things about this English-language remake of a 1996 French thriller are lost in translation. Chi-Town guy Josh Hartnett starts catching mysterious glimpses of his ex-girlfriend (Diane Kruger), who suddenly disappeared a few years back. His sleuthing leads him to Rose Byrne, who is also mysterious, but in all the wrong ways. Director Paul McGuigan uses unnecessary split screens and just-miss-'em coincidences to drum up tension that isn't really there.
And while the cast is beautiful to look at, by the time the movie reveals what's really going on, you'll be struck with more boredom than shock. Thankfully, sidekick Matthew Lillard offers some humorous, if out-of-place, one-liners, and Byrne's creepiness is coolly captivating. Otherwise, this Park would be a complete mess.
