Behold the majesty.
This morning, the very first trailer for the upcoming Fifty Shades Darker was finally released. Ever since the first film of the trilogy hit theaters last Valentine's Day, fans have been holding out for the hotly anticipated (or something) sequel. What will come of Anastasia and Christian? Will all of Mr. Grey's secrets be revealed? Is Marcia Gay Harden finally going to get her fair share of screen time?
These mysteries will remain unsolved, because there are more pressing matters to discuss: Rita Ora. Her role in the original installment was the talk of the town, thanks to the fact that she had but four lines of dialogue and debuted a kicky new black bob. As such, when the FSD trailer hit the Internet today, the question on everyone's minds was, what will Rita Ora be up to this time?
We'll get to that, but first, a bit of background.
For those who either already forgot Fifty Shades of Grey or perhaps got up to get more snacks or blinked at an untimely point, Ora played Christian's sister, Mia Grey. She was moderately-to-highly involved in the promotion and press tour of the first flick, receiving her own character poster and doing tons of interviews. She even received acting classes and accent training (and French lessons!) to prepare for her big screen debut.
But then when the flick hit theaters, audience goers found themselves facing an all-out Rita Ora shortage. This reporter can admit to not even realizing she had seen Rita until she read the Twitter comments after the screening. She had the following four lines of dialogue:
1. "She's here?"
2. "Oh my God, you exist?"
3. "Uck, Seattle baseball."
4. [Unintelligible sentence in French]
Are you moved? You should be. It was a pivotal performance that should be in the almost-porno-movie hall of fame. And, shockingly, her turn in the Fifty Shades Darker trailer is just as groundbreaking.
Now, we know what you're thinking. Hey, I watched the whole thing several times over, and even paused a few moments to look at Jamie Dornan's abs, but I didn't see Rita Ora at all!
And to that we say, your Rita Radar just isn't as finely-tuned as ours, because we spotted her right away. And we. Are. Floored. By. Her. Artistry. Let's have a look at her big trailer debut:
Yes, that is she, in the framed family photo. Much like Ora herself described her role in the first movie, this trailer appearance is a "blink and you'll miss it" situation. But that would mean you missed out on a fabulous experience. Look at Rita-slash-Mia just hanging out there in the Grey family photo, acting like they're not a bats--t crazy set of folks!
Discerning eyes will also notice that her much-beloved black wig from Fifty Shades of Grey is gone, and she's back to her signature long blonde locks. We're not really sure how all of us will be able to go on without this fierce bob, but we're going to try.
