Céline Dion debuted her new song, "Recovering," Friday, and it's unbelievably emotional. Written by Pink after Dion's husband René Angélil died, the ballad's heartfelt lyrics reveal how she is trying to put her life back together after experiencing such heartbreak.
"Little by little, day-by-day, one step at a time / Shake off the devil / Take back my piece of mind / I am recovering," she sings only to the tune of a piano. "Anxiety added. A broken perfectionist / somewhat erratic / I am recovering / A constant regretter / Hold it against her..."
"[Pink] is phenomenal. I love her for her talent, for her strength, for her focus, the person she is," she told Entertainment Tonight. "At the [Billboard Music Awards] when I saw her, I said, 'For you to take the time to really write a song, to give me a tool, a piece of luggage to help me to move forward to walk to keep going…'"
Angélil and Dion share three children together, René Charles and twins Nelson and Eddy. Angélil died of throat cancer in January. He was 73.
"Recovering" is the first single off Dion's upcoming album, which will be the first English-language album for the "My Heart Will Go On" songstress since 2013's Loved Me Back to Life.
In July Dion stopped by the Today show where she and Kathie Lee Gifford reflected on the passing of their husbands. "You gave strength to everybody. Because you're strong, we can all be strong. Everybody is waiting to see how you're doing, you know? To give them permission to be okay," Gifford told Dion, though she was speaking from personal experience.
"I have to tell you I feel very strong," Dion responded. "I lost the man of my life, but I cannot live thinking this way. I have to say I found the best man in the world like you did for yourself and we were both extremely lucky."
A tearful Kathie Lee added, "We're all going up someday."
