Zac Efron took to Twitter this evening to share somber news about his four-legged best friend.

The Dirty Grandpa actor revealed that his dog Puppy Efron passed away and penned a touching tribute to his beloved pet.

"Through thick and thin you've always been my best friend," the 28-year-old wrote before adding, "Until we meet again, RIP Puppy Efron."

Efron posted a photo of him kissing the Australian Shepherd alongside the message.

Back in April 2012, Efron shared the very first photo of the pup to his fans around the world and shared how the little one came into this life on Christmas in 2011. RIP, Puppy. You will be missed!

It's been a jam-packed summer for Efron and this month was no exception.

The actor just came back from a whirlwind trip to Rio for the 2016 Summer Olympics last week where he met gold medalist Simone Biles.

"Sad to leave but so happy for the amazing memories," he wrote before heading back to the United States.
