Good morning, Patrick Dempsey!
The former Grey's Anatomy star really woke up the Australian TV audience Sunday morning when he accidentally started discussing erections with Australia's Today show co-hosts. While appearing on the morning show with Bridget Jones's Baby co-star Renée Zellweger, the two rom-com stars had the opportunity to try out an Aussie accent. Zellweger gave it her all, but when Dempsey was asked to give it a go he decided he would impress the morning show hosts with his knowledge of Australian slang.
"Traveller," he said on-air, "Traveller's a beer you travel with right?"
As soon as the co-hosts heard the word "traveller," they immediately burst into laughter, causing Dempsey to be utterly confused. "You're not supposed to say that," co-host Richard Wilkins retorted.
But Dempsey still didn't understand what was wrong with his lingo. "What's a traveller? Have I alienated everyone in the country?" Dempsey asked.
"All the blokes who are watching are sitting upright now," Wilkinson joked. Everyone dropped the topic for a period of time, but when it resurfaced later in the conversation Dempsey wanted answers to what was so funny about the term. "What the heck is a traveller?" McDreamy finally got his answer when Wilkinson whispered in his ear, out of hearing for the viewers and his co-hosts.
"Oh, excuse me," an embarrassed Dempsey responded.
For those who are like Dempsey and don't know what the Aussie term means, a "traveller" is an erection a male develops while riding public transportation.
The more you know!
