If you ever have the pleasure of meeting the Modern Family star, chances are she's going to smell really, really good. When we sat down with the actress to talk about her new fragrance Tempting, she let us in on some secrets (you're never going to guess which of her co-stars has a hyper sense of smell) and explained what the process was like when it came to creating her third, more sultry scent.
What is perfume to you?
I always wear perfume. Every day. To me, it's part of dressing. If it's a summer day, I wear something lighter. If it's a date, I put even more on. I don't feel completely done without it—I feel naked! It also makes me feel refreshed, like a quick shower. I always have one in my trailer, so I can spray in between scenes.
Where do you spray yours?
I put it everywhere.
Tell us about Tempting.
This is my third fragrance! Sofia, which was my first, was a little more fruity and vibrant. You can wear that one all day long; it's a scent for every age. The second one we did was a little bit sweeter and romantic; it's called Love. And for Tempting I wanted something sexier, something that will make you feel "ready for action." It's made up of vanilla—it's been tested that men and women react really well to that smell—sandalwood, musk, orchards, jasmine. It has a combination of all things that are "me."
What was your testing process like?
The first perfume was the most difficult, and that's the one I tested on a lot of people. I would put on different testers before going to set and see the reactions of people, the reactions of men and from there I would start weeding out the choices. Eric Stonestreet has a great sense of smell for perfumes—it's super weird. He always knows, by name, what scent you're wearing, so I would always ask him what he thinks. I would ask him a lot.
Why did you choose this design for the packaging and bottle?
Well, I wanted all my perfumes in bottles you'd want to display. This time, because of the name Tempting, we thought the shape of a woman would be sexier. For the box we did an animal print, snakeskin. Any time people ask me what my favorite color is, I always say animal print.
