Upton exclusively revealed to E! News shortly before the Met Gala Monday that she and her boyfriend made it official. "I'm really excited, he asked me right before season started so we've been keeping it on the down low for quite a while," she told us. "So I'm excited to finally be able to share it with the world!"
The couple dated for three years before Verlander put a ring on it, so let's look back at their adorable romance.
They Detroit Tigers star and his Sports Illustrated model ladylove got the rumor mill really swirling when they were spotted on vacation together in St. Thomas in early January 2013. Prior to that there were only whispers of them dating in July 2012. That October, her family had insinuated that they were an item, but by July 2013, the relationship had fizzled.
But as we all know, true love never dies! Upton began dating Maksim Chmerkovskiy, but they broke up in December 2013. Only one month later were Upton and Verlanded spotted together taking in a Flyers game. Their romance would take off from there. Over the course of the next few months they'd be spotted out and about together. In May 2014 the couple were adorable spotted at another hockey game, but Verlander had the unfortunate luck of getting caught staring at his now-fiancée's breasts.
She didn't seem to mind, though, as she gave him a big kiss on the cheek during the game. One month later, they celebrated Upton's 22nd birthday at Chicago Cut Steakhouse. "Kate was with her boyfriend, sister and mother," a source told E! News. "Justin has been here before."
Afterwards they hit up the Underground in Chicago, where an eyewitness told E! News they had quite the night. "He was trying to be low-key, but she was up dancing with a fun group," said the eyewitness. "They were the most fun group in the club that night."
That summer they traveled to Cancun together for a getaway vacation where they were spotted being "very loved up." Shortly before the 2015 baseball season began, Verlander and Upton hit up Disney's Animal Kingdom where they found themselves surrounded by crocodiles during the Wild Africa Trek.
The private and "normal" couple lives their life outside of the public eye, but she couldn't hide that massive sparkler last night. Congratulations again to the happy couple!
