Could there be an end in sight for Girls

It sounds like the HBO comedy might be planning to take a bow after season six, according to Lena Dunham

Dunham called into Elvis Duran and the Morning Show this morning to talk about the free feminist newsletter she started with fellow Girls showrunner Jenni Konner, and she indicated that the show may only go on for two more seasons.

"Never say never, but that is the way we're thinking about it right now and we're starting to think about sort of how to wrap up the storylines of these particular young women," Dunham says. "It's really exciting. I started working on this show when I was 23, and I'm going to be 30 so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world."

This isn't the first time Dunham has talked about the show only going six seasons. She also talked about that possibility in an interview with Variety, saying she prefers the British model of shorter and fewer seasons of TV shows.

The fact that the end may come relatively soon makes sense for where the story is right now, since the season four finale seemed to be a step in a more adult direction especially for Lena's character, Hannah, who refused Adam's (Adam Driver) pleas to get back together. In a six-month flash forward, Hannah was seen to be dating Fran (Jake Lacy), who at least seems to be much more well-adjusted than Adam ever was.

Season five of the often controversial series—which received an incredibly inappropriate but extremely hilarious nod from Andy Samberg at this year's Emmys—picks up after the six month time jump we saw in the finale, with all of the girls having moved onto new things, either professionally or romantically.

Girls returns to HBO in January 2016.
