Behold: a whole lotta hotties and one dynamic story line.
The first trailer for the highly anticipated film The Big Short—an adaption of Michael Lewis' bestseller "The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine"—debuted today and it features A-list actors such as Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell and Christian Bale.
Centered on the build-up of the housing and credit bubble in the 2000s, which led to the global financial crisis from 2007 to 2010, the film follows Steve Eisman (Carell), Greg Lippmann (Gosling), Michael Burry (Bale) and Ben Hockett (Pitt)—four men who predicted the imminent burst of the housing bubble and, as the trailer explains, "bet against the American economy."
Aesthetically speaking, the trailer is easy on the eyes (Gosling still manages to look hotter than ever with his hair dyed black), but the clip provides a powerful message about money and greed.
"I'm sure the world's banks have more incentives than greed," a female clerk says as Pitt shakes his head and Carell calmly replies, "You're wrong."
According to Vulture, Paramount and Pitt's production company Plan B Entertainment began adapting the novel back in 2010 shortly after the father of six signed on to Moneyball, which was also based on one of Lewis' books and later became an Oscar-nominated film.
Paramount Pictures also announced today that the film is set for a December 2015 release—making it a contender for awards season.
Directed by Adam McKay and also starring Melissa Leo and Marisa Tomei, the movie will first close out November's AFI Fest in Los Angeles.
