It was the only way for The Daily Show With Jon Stewart to really end.

The late, great Comedy Central series (in that particular incarnation) won three more Emmys tonight, including Best Variety Talk Series, to bring its grand total to 23 and now former host Jon Stewart—sounding as sage as his salt-and-pepper beard would suggest he would sound—gave an epic, albeit humble, farewell. (Well, another epic, albeit humble, farewell.)

"Without the music it really feels very judgmental," he quipped at first. "Everybody staring going, 'It's been 10 seconds. Entertain us!'"

"To everybody on television, I just want to tell you, cling to it, as long as you can," continued Stewart, who had literally jumped for joy when his writing team won yet another Emmy, and also applauded the hell out of first-time directing winner Chuck O'Neil.

"Like death, like in the Titanic, the guy [said], 'Cling to it.' I have been off of television for six weeks, seven weeks, whatever it is—this is the first applause I've heard. It is a barren wasteland out there...Out in the world there are tables with food, but you can't take it. It costs money, very little of it is gluten-free or vegan."

Gesturing behind him, he added, "These people, I love desperately. I will never work with a group of people like this, I will never have an experience like this again. Comedy Central blessed me with this and these guys did all the work. LL Cool J was, I think, referring to me as a 'new Jack'…I believe, it was the new Jack. Sounds better out of him.

"Thank you so very much, you will never have to see me again."

Please, Jon—perish the thought.

Meanwhile, The Daily Show With Trevor Noah premieres Sept. 28. Here's to many more Emmys in the pipeline.
