She'll play a ruthless sorority queen on TV this fall, but Emma Roberts was nothing but class on the Emmys red carpet.

The actor channeled a vintage screen siren in a Jenny Packham satin barley gown with a plunging neckline, accented by a velvet belt featuring a diamond brooch. However, it was her soft waves—courtesy of celeb hairstylist and E! Style Collective member Nikki Lee—that really completed the romantic look.

"We did a modern take on an Old Hollywood sultry star!" said Nikki.

While Emma's custom dress and Giuseppe Zanotti shoes may be a bit out of our budget, you can recreate her beautiful locks. The star's trusted hair guru breaks down the steps below.

"I started with prepping her hair with Unite 7Seconds Leave In Detangler then applied a volumizing spray at the root to mid shaft," noted Nikki. "I used a sculpting lotion for her ends then blew her hair out with a 2-inch round brush, which added a nice bounce to her hair.

"I then set her hair with thermal shine spray to protect her hair from the heat of the 1 ½-inch curling iron I used. I took about 2-inch sections all around her head, wrapping the hair downward and pinned them with duckbill clips to hold into place. Once completing the set, I did a light mist of hairspray. I let the hair cool for about 15 minutes.

"I then took all pins out and began brushing all her curls out with a boar-bristle brush. This is a key element to creating that old Hollywood wave. After I brushed and created the shape, I locked it in to place with Unite Session-Max hairspray."
