The 26-year-old actress and the 34-year-old actor were first rumored to be dating in May, and over the summer, they were photographed together a few more times. But are the romance rumors true? "I mean, we definitely are friends and we've known each other for about four years. And we happened to be at a restaurant at a wrong time having dinner," she told Refinery29 at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she promoted I Saw the Light. "We all go out to dinner."
The actress is used to being linked to her co-stars, as she was with twice with The Avengers: Age of Ultron actors. "Apparently, I'm dating Chris Evans, and apparently, I've dated Jeremy Renner, so I guess that...I don't react to it," she told the site.
Asked point blank if she's dating Hiddleston, Olsen said, "No."
"I mean, people can think what they want to think," she added.
Olsen didn't say anything else about Hiddleston, but she did discuss her role as Scarlet Witch in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. "She's in a place where she has nothing, and she's in conflict about what she thinks she should be doing, and where she is, and who she is. I get to continue to play a kind of wild card. That's awesome for me," she said. "That's a great position to be in for one of those films."
The movie also stars Paul Bettany, Chadwick Boseman, Daniel Brühl, Don Cheadle, Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Frank Grillo, Tom Holland, William Hurt, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan and Emily VanCamp. Asked about the state of female characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Olsen defended the blockbuster franchise. "I actually think they write amazing women. I think the women exist on their own. I think if there ends up being a love interest for any of them, it's not making them a love interest in a story. It's just part of humanity. Everyone is trying to find a mate. That's kind of just how the world has been created. So for a superhero to not want that is kind of strange. Like, why are you cutting off the fact that there's another part to them? It's like, OK, so what? Female CEOs and CFOs aren't allowed to, like, have a husband and get married and have a baby? I don't understand. So, for me, I love the way they write my character," Olsen explained. "I love what happens."
