Today was supposed to be Princess Charlotte's day. Rather, it was supposed to be her week. This past Sunday her Royal Christening took place, cementing her in the ranks of all the current and former Princesses.

Today the official portraits from the big event were released. They were snapped by none other than living legend Mario Testino, and they are exactly as amazing as one would expect. The Vogue favorite photog captured the royal family looking predictably picture-perfect, al fancy suits and fascinators and inexorably flattering lighting.

But, to Charlotte's deep, deep chagrin, no one is talking about how cute she looks in her creepy lace christening dress. No one is talking about her at all. Instead, all anyone can focus on is her uncle (and brother to Kate) James Middleton. Actually, make that James Middleton's beard.

That's right, a beard stole the spotlight from an adorable little baby. But what a beautiful beard it is. James' facial hair isn't anything new, in fact for royal watchers it's even kind of old news. However, something about the beard in the official christening photos really caught the public's eyes...and hearts. Perhaps the youngest Middleton was fresh off a fancy grooming session, or maybe it's the pristine lighting of Mario Testino's photography, but either way it's all working. Well.

It's working so well, in fact, that we'd reason to say James Middleton's Beard is the new Pippa Middleton's Butt. This is a bold statement, yes, but just look at the thing! And more importantly, look at the public infatuation. This facial hair is truly one-of-a-kind. Bravo, James Middleton, bravo.
