The first lady stepped out for the White House State Dinner in a floor-sweeping, violet gown from Japanese-born designer Tadashi Shoji, which featured an airy tulle skirt and ruched bodice with lace detailing. The look showcased FLOTUS' famously trim arms, while her loose, unfussy updo was an easy-chic way to complement those diamond cluster earrings.
President Barack Obama looked dapper himself at the event, which was also attended by Ciara and her beau Russell Wilson, former Star Trek actor and Japanese American activist George Takei as well as television trailblazer Shonda Rhimes.
Mrs. Obama hasn't been shying from colorful, springtime-ready get-ups for her official appearances in recent weeks—the sunrise-printed Monique Lhuillier scuba coat and structured dress from her outing to welcome Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was particularly of note, but we also love the sexy, off-the-shoulder Zac Posen midi she sported to last month's BET 2015 Black Girls Rock! event and, well, all of the stunning frocks she donned during her Asia tour in March.
