One of the first signs of spring in New York City (other than the pollen) is the Tribeca Film Festival.

Launched in 2002 by Robert De Niro, producer Jane Rosenthal and philanthropist Craig Hatkoff in response to 9/11, the annual event has grown into one of the world's most important movie fests.

This year's festivities kick off tonight with the premiere of Live From New York!, the much-anticipated documentary about Saturday Night Live.

With that in mind, here we give you nine movies that we're very excited about seeing…

Live From New York!: Directed by Bao Nguyen, the doc spans the show's 40-year history. Vintage footage and interviews with people like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler makes this a must-see. Current and past SNL cast members, including Jimmy Fallon, Cecily Strong, Jason Sudekis and Kate McKinnon, are expected to attend the premiere.

Reed Morano

Meadowland: Olivia Wilde is the belle of Tribeca this year. Not only will she be on hand at the premiere of Meadowland (she plays a mom whose son goes missing in the drama), she's also a producer of the short documentary Home Improvement and will serve as panelist in a Tribeca Talks discussion about producing. Wilde's fiancé Jason Sudekis will also have a full dance card. In addition to Live from New York!, he's appearing in two other TFF movies: Tumbledown and Sleeping with Other People.

Anna Kooris

The Adderall Diaries: James Franco stars as a drug-addicted writer obsessed with a bizarre murder trial in this big screen adaptation of Stephen Elliott's book of the same name. Amber Heard co-stars as Franco's love interest with Ed Harris playing his estranged father.

Tobias Datum

Bare: Former Glee star Dianna Agron and Boardwalk Empire's Paz de La Huerta star as lovers in this sexual thriller. Both actresses will be holding court at the premiere after-party at LDV at No. 8.

Eternal Princess: Katie Holmes makes her directorial debut with this inspiring short film about Nadia Comaneci, the Romanian sports champion who became a household name when she was just 14 years old after becoming the first female gymnast to earn a perfect score of 10 at the 1976 Olympics.

As I AM: The Life and Times of DJ AM: Here's an intimate look at the personal struggles of celebrity deejay (and former Nicole Richie fiancé) Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, who died of a drug overdose in 2009. Family members and close friends will host an after-party at Avenue.

Grandma: Already mentioned as a contender for next year's Oscars, Lily Tomlin stars as a 70-something grandmother whose teenage granddaughter (Julia Garner) asks for her help in terminating her unexpected pregnancy. Directed by Paul Weitz, the dramedy's cast also includes Judy Greer, Marcia Gay Harden, Laverne Cox, Nat Wolff and John Cho.

Goodfellas: In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning mob movie, the film will close out the festival on April 25. "It's wonderful to see one of your pictures revived and re-seen, but to see it closing Tribeca, a festival of new movies, means the world to me," Scorsese said in a statement released by the festival. Following the screening, stars Robert DeNiro, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, Ray Liotta and Paul Sorvino will be take part in a conversation moderated by Jon Stewart.
