Namaste, Nicole Scherzinger!
The 36-year-old singer started her week off right with a most impressive Monday morning yoga sesh! The former Pussycat Dolls star Instagrammed a picture of herself doing a perfect split mid-headstand—a most impressive feat! The yogi even shared some words of wisdom, writing, "Never stop stretching and challenging yourself."
Wow, you go, girl. Looks like Nicole knows a thing or two about nurturing her mind, body and spirit! Yoga isn't the only thing this newly single gal (she and longtime boyfriend Lewis Hamilton broke up again earlier this year) does to keep in shape.
In fact, dancing is her No. 1 fitness activity! "It keeps me in shape," she told Glamour. "I'm like a drill sergeant—my choreographer is, too."
She doesn't shy away from old-school cardio either. "I do a 30- to 45- minute jog twice a week and a lot of circuit training in the gym," she said. "I alternate from a few minutes of cardio to sets of 12 on each exercise. I like one leg dead lift squats and bed-overs using 10 pound weights."
And while she strives to eat healthily, she told Glamour she doesn't really "believe in diets."
"I love food," she explained. "If I deprive myself, I'm going to want it more. I snack on yogurt, raw cashews and cherry tomatoes."
Nicole hasn't always been such a picture of health, though. Last summer, she opened up to British Cosmopolitan about her personal battle with bulimia, saying, "It is such a horrible paralyzing disease and it was such a dark time for me."
"That's why I can empathize so much with people who have demons and voices in their heads, who aren't nice to themselves. It robs you of living your life. But you can recover and you can get rid of it forever," she said, noting that her toughest struggles with the eating disorder happened in her 20s. "I did it and that's why it's so important for me to share my story. I felt so alone...but I made myself so alone. You hide it from the world, you isolate yourself. But you can beat it—do not give up because you're so special and you're meant for such great things."
It wasn't until Nicole blacked out that she realized she had to get help. "I had started losing my voice, I couldn't sing at shows, and then I remember my manager finding me passed out on the floor in Malta or in the south of France," she told British Cosmopolitan. "I thought, ‘I'm going to lose everything I love if I don't love myself.' One day when you feel like you've reached the end, you just say, ‘I'm not doing this anymore.' It's sad to see how I wasted my life. I had such a great life on the outside, the Dolls were on top of the world but I was miserable on the inside. I'm never letting that happen again; you only get one life—I was 27 only once."
Thankfully, Nicole got her life back on track, and practicing yoga is a great way to stay focused on inner health and happiness.
