Not everything is at it seems!

Taylor Swift was spotted grabbing a bite to eat at Los Angeles hot spot Chateau Marmont last night at the same time as one of her very famous exes, none other than John Mayer.

The two were seen leaving the hotel at separate times, with both being driven away from the chic hangout, and photogs caught the singer-songwriters appearing to be in good spirits in their respective vehicles.

According to eyewitnesses, the Grammy-winning duo arrived separately at Chateau at the exact same time and left around midnight.

But it turns out that their timing was just a coincidence, as T.Swift's rep exclusively tells E! News, "Taylor was with Lily Aldridge and never saw Mr. Mayer at Chateau Marmont."

The duo infamously dated back in 2009, and after their split, T.Swift reportedly wrote "Dear John" in honor of the breakup.

Mayer slammed the track in an interview with Rolling Stone in 2012, saying, "It made me feel terrible because I didn't deserve it. It was really a lousy thing to do. I never got an email. I never got a phone call. I was really caught off guard."

He added, "["Dear John"] is cheap songwriting. It's abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, 'Wait 'til he gets a load of this!' That's bulls--t…It really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel it, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?"

Mayer fired back in his own way though, by penning the single "Paper Doll" a year later.

Mayer's song includes the lyric, "Someone's gonna paint you another sky," which appears to be a reference to Swift's "Dear John".

The song's chorus didn't dispel any doubts that the song was about Swift either.

"You're like 22 girls in one/ And none of them know what they're running from."

Mayer most recently split from Katy Perry earlier this year after dating on-and-off for several years.

Meanwhile, T.Swift (who just released her next single "Shake It Off" and announced her forthcoming album 1989 earlier this week) broke up with Conor Kennedy back in 2012 and has kept a fairly low profile ever since.
