Watch: Allison Williams' Plan for Awards Season

Allison Williams knows awards season can be stressful, so the Girls star took a little time to prepare on her own terms!

Well, as the 26-year-old actress told E! News Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the People's Choice Awards in L.A., she got red carpet ready "like an insane person!"

Come again now? "I spent four days alone in my apartment," she said, "Doing nothing!"

"I didn't tell people I was in town," she admitted, "and I cleaned off my desk, I scrapbooked—I've never even done that before! I was just alone—it was so nice and relaxing."

And after this little secluded staycation, Allison "felt very ready for everything to start up."

She also admitted there are more than a few moments written for her Girls character Marnie in season three that shocked her!  "But that's a compliment," she said. "When the writers write something crazy and terrifying and alarming into script, it just means, 'OK, we think you can do this, so don't prove us wrong.'"

"Every time they give me a scene that seems scary," she said, "I'm excited."

And Allison really is committed to her craft. As she told Elle's new Women in TV issue, "I'll gain 100 pounds [for a role], I'll cut my hair off, I'll do whatever. I'm not precious about any of it...I want to play a villain. I want to play a romantic heroine. I want to play someone who's on heroin. There's nothing I don't want to do. I want to play a guy at some point."

That said, she wanted the world to get a sense of who she is outside of characters, too. "I wanted to establish a baseline: Here's what I look like, I have long brown hair, I wear this kind of dress, this is the deal," she said. "You can count on it."
