REX USA/Tania Coetzee/RexPrince Harry has arrived in Antarctica and is one step closer to beginning his South Pole trek.
The 29-year-old royal touched down at Novolazarevskaya Station, Antarctica on Friday, Nov. 22 after poor weather conditions forced his team, Walking With the Wounded, to stay in Cape Town, South Africa for an extra 48 hours.
The teams—Soldier On (Australia and Canada), Soldiers to Summit (United States of America) and Walking with the Wounded (United Kingdom)—will now begin to acclimatize their bodies to the extreme conditions at the airbase, located at the edge of the Antarctic continent before beginning their expedition to the South Pole.
The journey will begin from 87 degrees south on Nov. 30 with the groups hoping to reach the geographic South Pole by Dec. 16.
Prince Harry is joined by True Blood hunk Alexander Skarsgård, who is a member of the American team and The Wire's Dominic West, who is going with the Commonwealth team.
Prince Harry's team, comprised of injured English service men and women, have done some pre-South Pole prep to gear up for their incredible journey. In September, they spent 24 hours in an ice chamber, practicing setting up camp in sub-zero temperatures with wind speeds up to 45 miles per hours.
All participating team members will race 208 miles across the Antarctic Plateau and are expecting to travel approximately 10 miles a day. Keep in mind, they'll also be carrying extremely heavy backpacks with them throughout the entire excursion.
Temperatures are said to be as low as 49 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, with winds up to 50 mph, during some points of the charity mission.
