If you're dating a superhero, things are bound to get complicated.

Of course, for Natalie Portman's Jane Foster, that's an understatement, as she tries to figure out where she stands with Chris Hemsworth's hunky Thunder god in Marvel's highly anticipated blockbuster sequel, Thor: The Dark World.

E! News has an exclusive clip of a featurette in which the two stars dish on the nature of their characters' unique relationship and the challenges Thor's astrophysicist ladylove faces as they try to keep the flame going from different corners of the universe—all the while facing a new adversary.

"What's at stake is not only the kingdom, but I think mankind and the universe in general," says Hemsworth.

The new film picks up after 2012's The Avengers with Thor and the other members of The Avengers Initiative having soundly defeated the Crown Prince of Asgard's adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston). But soon another enemy arises in the form of Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), lord of the Dark Elves, which prompts Thor to return to his earthbound squeeze and take her back to his home planet after a mysterious invisible force takes hold of her body.

Of course, whether or not Jane's happy to see him is another matter, considering he didn't bother to contact her when he was off saving the world in The Avengers.

"When Thor comes back, she's angry at him for not dropping by," adds Portman.

According to her costar however, Jane "comes to understand that he's been saving the universe."

"As excuses go, it's not terrible," Foster tells her man in a scene from the movie.

Hemsworth adds the romance has a certain "Romeo and Juliet" quality to it.

Whether or not they'll hammer out their differences, fanboys can see for themselves when Thor: The Dark World hits theaters on Nov. 8.
