Katy Perry on John Mayer: "I Actually Am Dating My Crush"

Hitmaker opens up about what she thought of her fellow singer-songwriter before they were a couple

It turns out Katy Perry has been thinking of John Mayer...a lot.

In an interview hyping her new album Prism, the "Dark Horse" singer admitted she had the hots for the 36-year-old blues rocker way before they actually hooked up.

"I actually am dating my crush," the 28-year-old Perry tells the November issue of W Magazine. "I had a crush on him for a long time."

Perry also dishes on her 14-month marriage to funnyman Russell Brand, which ended in divorce in February 2012, and whether she liked being hitched.

"Of course," she said. "I really loved it. It was a new, fun, exciting journey. But I like how I am now, and I think all things happen for a reason."

Other noteworthy tidbits from the sit-down: the hitmaker also offers up some clues as to the meaning behind her new No. 1 single, "Roar," and whether it had anything to do with her short-lived union.

"This song is about sticking up for yourself," Perry explains. "People talk about bullying, but you can be your own bully in some ways. You can be the person who is standing in the way of your success, and that was the case for me. I was having a great professional streak, but personally, I was really immature, so I had to balance those things out."

She continues, "If you are not happy with something, you should change it. So I went to a lot of therapy, and finally, I am able to speak up for myself: You are going to hear me roar!"

The pop superstar also reveals why it's unlikely fans will be seeing her acting on the big screen anytime soon, despite lending her voice to The Smurfs and its sequel.

"I hate mornings," Perry admits. "So I told some executives who had asked me whether I wanted to act that if you want to start shooting at 11 a.m., then I'm your girl. Otherwise, I'm not interested. I live a rock-star kind of life where I don't go to bed until 4 a.m. I'm very nocturnal."

But the Grammy winner hasn't ruled it out entirely.

"But I always say that if Ridley Scott wants to hire me for Blade Runner 2 to play Rachel, I am absolutely available," she adds.
