Lamar Odom appears to have taken a turn for the better.

A source exclusively tells E! News that Khloé Kardashian Odom's husband has been sober for more than a week and is doing really well.

"He just wants to get healthy and be there for his kids," the source says. Odom has two children from a previous relationship.

The 33-year-old athlete, who spent the 2012-2013 NBA season with the Los Angeles Clippers but is currently between teams, has been working out and is "determined to play for the Lakers again."

Odom played for the Lakers for seven seasons, winning two NBA championships and being named Sixth Man of the Year in 2011. He then spent a lackluster season with the Dallas Mavericks before joining the Clippers.

"He is taking steps to get himself back on track," the source says. "He wants his old life back, although he realizes that might not include Khloé."

The couple have largely been living apart since Odom's DUI arrest on Aug. 30, but have stayed in contact as they try to sort through their issues. They reunited most recently on Oct. 8 for a visit to the Jenner family home in the wake of the news that Kris and Bruce Jenner had separated.

Odom has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Nov. 8.

Khloé has continued to wear her massive diamond wedding ring while going about her business, which most recently has included hosting a party in Hollywood, making visits to Dash and shooting the next season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. She also has a trip to London planned for next month to promote the Kardashian Kollection for Lipsy.

The first word of Odom's possible Lakers comeback actually came from his barber, who gave the basketball player a haircut yesterday and then wrote on Instagram that he had wished his customer luck on a supposed upcoming meeting with the team.

"He is surrounded by friends," our source adds. "We all hope he has turned a corner."
