Jennifer Hudson may have lost her mom Darnell Donerson five years ago, but she still hears from her late mother.

The Oscar winner says she gets signs from her on a daily basis.

"All the time!" Hudson told me at Variety's Power of Women event, where she was honored for her Julian D. King Foundation. "My mother wasn't very talkative, but now that she's gone, I'm like, 'Wow, she had a lot to say!'

"There's not a day that goes by [that] I don't wake up and be like, 'My mama used to say' and 'What my mama said.'…It's like, Whoa, she really did have a lot to say."

And it's Hudson's memories of her mom along with those of her late brother Jason Hudson and nephew Julian King that inspire the foundation.

"My nephew never went without," Hudson said. "My brother barbequed for the entire neighborhood and everyone had to eat. My mother was extremely giving. This is our way of giving back and also healing for us."

Hudson also talked about expanding her and fiancé David Otunga's family.

"I want a little girl so bad," she said. "And my son every day, 'Mommy, I want a baby sister. I want a baby sister.' David and I originally said when he turned four, but he's four now so maybe when he turns six because four came a little too soon."
