Box Office: Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 Rules the Weekend, Tops Prisoners

Animated comedy was the No. 1 choice for moviegoers

The forecast for the top movie at this weekend's box office? Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2!

The animated comedy, featuring Bill Hader, Anna Faris and Will Forte, was the No.1 choice for moviegoers, raking in $35 million.

According to IMDB, the family friendly flick tells the story of Flint Lockwood (Hader) who now works at The Live Corp Company for his idol Chester V (Forte). But Flint is forced to leave his position when he finds out that his infamous machine is still operational and is "churning out menacing food-animal hybrids."

Last weekend's No.1 film, Prisoners, the suspenseful drama starring Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, landed at No.2 with $11.2 million. Rush, the action thriller starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl, raced to the No. 3 spot with $10.3 million. 

Baggage Claim starring Paula Patton and Taye Diggs and Don Jon starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson, debuted this weekend at No.4 with $9.3 million and No.5 with $9 million, respectively.
