Heidi Klum is both.
"I'm sort of in between chairs," the Project Runway host told me at the Creative Arts Emmys in downtown L.A. "On one side, I like that she pushes the envelope and she owns it. There is right now no one who is like her. But at the same time, do I want my girls to dress like that? I don't. Do I want my girls to look up to the way she performs? No, I don't."
"I have to say I am a little in between chairs," the supermodel mom of four continued. "I think as an artist you have to have your own [expression] and not copy someone and express yourself and that's what she's doing. I'm a little here and a little there."
Tim Gunn isn't as torn.
"It doesn't hit the appropriateness quotient for me," the outspoken fashion mentor said. "I think she needs to own her age and enjoy it and not feel like she has to dress like a 50-year-old woman acting like a cougar."
He went on to say, "There is a lot that falls between wearing jeans and a T-shirt and being a float in a parade. It's difficult to be between those two bookends and do it well and in a way that has people talking positively and resonating to you for all the right reasons."
"It's hard," Gunn said. "It's a lot easier to be a joke."
Lady Gaga recently blasted Cyrus' haters.
"I mean, I just think everybody needs to lighten up and leave her alone," she said on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live. "Because it's pop music. Everybody's entitled to their own artistic expression, and if you have a problem with it, just change the channel."
