Dad in Short Shorts

In an era of twerking and crop tops and whatever the hell happens on Vine, one man, one legend, one father rises above: Scott Mackintosh. And he's wearing itty bitty Daisy Dukes.

The father of seven went viral recently, after wearing cutoff shorts and a T-shirt reading "Best. Dad.Ever." to prove a point to his daughter. And now Scott has posted on his wife's blog, Becky Mack's Blog of Mild Chaos, to give the "REAL story behind the short-shorts."

To back up, Scott explains the family's "pretty definite modesty guidelines"—nothing low cut, no "mid-drift" [midriff], no sleeveless shirts may be worn except for "playing sports or at the beach"—and admits, "Some may call me old fashion...I call it 'a Dad who loves his daughters' (and sons too)."

Still, Scott's youngest daughter continued to wear "inappropriate and immodest" clothing. On one Monday evening, the night set aside for family fun, Scott "heard my wife ask our daughter if she would please change into some longer shorts before leaving. She said ‘NO!'"

He decided to teach her "maybe [short-shorts] aren't as ‘cute' as she thinks!"

Scott cut off a pair of old pants with "only about an inch of material below the crotch," figuring his embarrassed daughter would stop him before he had the chance to leave the house, but she was so focused on her phone she didn't notice until they got to the restaurant.

"My daughter didn't seem to care however like I had hoped she would," Scott blogs. "So the question to myself was, 'Do I let it fail or take it to the next level?' Take it to the next level of course!"

Scott notes that he got a bunch of funny looks both at dinner and afterward when they went to play mini golf at a nearby "fun center." But it wasn't until the family went for post-putt-putt milkshakes that his daughter had enough.

"'Uh, no! We are NOT going in!' I said 'Sure we are, let's go!'" Scott recalls. "She stayed in the car. She had had enough and did not want to go through any further embarrassment...There was no 'Dad I get it'...but my daughter will always know that her dad loves her and cares about her enough to make a fool out of himself."

He later appeared on local KSL News for an update, saying, "I have not seen [the short shorts]. She's dressed a little bit better since then, she has." As for his own shorts, "I think the shorts are done."
