Reese Witherspoon is hoping to put this past week far behind her.

"She is trying to lay low and spend time with her family," a source exclusively tells E! News about the Oscar winner, who along with husband Jim Toth was arrested last Friday in Atlanta. Witherspoon is facing a count of alleged disorderly conduct, while her agent hubby is charged with alleged DUI.

"It's going to take her a long time to get over and she knows she let her family down," the insider says, noting that Witherspoon is "devastated" by recent events.

Happily, the source adds, the Walk the Line star "has a very close network of girlfriends who are being very supportive and have been keeping her busy. She's trying to move on, but she's definitely nervous about the future."

Witherspoon and Toth (or their attorneys, at least) are due to appear in Atlanta Municipal Court on May 22 and 23, respectively.

The actress issued an apology on Sunday, saying that she had "one drink too many" and was "embarrassed about the things" she said to the police officer who pulled the couple over and ultimately arrested them. "I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behavior," she concluded.

A source told us earlier this week that their dual arrests were "a bit of a wake-up call" for Toth, who "feels guilty about what happened and that Reese got involved in this mess."

Witherspoon, meanwhile, posed for pics on the red carpet at the Mud premiere in New York Sunday, before flying back to Los Angeles the following day. She spent Tuesday at the Paramount lot and stopped by the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel yesterday.

She was all smiles when photographed out and about today, the first time the paparazzi had caught up with her since she returned to L.A.
