Prashant Gupta / FXRejoice, Justified fans: FX has renewed the Harlan County-set hit for a fifth season, which will premiere in January 2014.
The news, which isn't exactly a surprise considering season four of the drama is currently pulling in its best ratings to date, was announced Thursday morning during the cable net's annual upfront presentation in New York.
But that wasn't the only bit of FX-related news to get excited about. Among the other highlights:
• So long, Fox Soccer! That channel is becoming FXX, an entertainment network targeting adults 18-34, starting Sept. 2. To help launch the new net, FX is relocating several renewed series—It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, Legit and Totally Biased with Kamau Bell (which will become a five-times-a-week show)—to FXX.
• American Horror Story: Coven, the third installment in Ryan Murphy's chilling hit anthology series, will continue its tradition of premiering just in time for Halloween.
• Keri Russell's Russian spy drama The Americans, which was recently renewed for a season two, will join Justified in premiering in January 2014, while season four of Emmy-winning comedy Louie will debut in May 2014.
• FX has several promising new series in the works, including this July's The Bridge, starring Joshua Jackson's better half, Diane Kruger, and Oscar nominee Demian Bichir; The Strain, a vampire horror drama from Guillermo del Toro and Lost's Carlton Cuse, which kicks off production this summer; and a limited series based on the 1996 Oscar-nominated film Fargo, which will be produced by that film's directors, Joel and Ethan Coen.
