The Emmy-winning actor was hospitalized Tuesday night in Gary, Ind., after having trouble speaking during his one-man show, FDR.
Per the Chicago Sun-Times, the 83-year-old Asner cut short his performance as President Franklin Delano Roosevelt about 15 minutes into the sold-out show at the Marquette Pavilion after he began struggling with his lines.
Crew members subsequently intervened and escorted him off the stage, and he was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
George Van Til, an audience member who attended FDR, which has been touring the nation, told the paper the TV veteran appeared confused and frustrated and was not speaking clearly.
A rep for Asner was unavailable for comment, but was quoted in another report as saying the thesp had been suffering from exhaustion and is now "resting comfortably" and should get out of the hospital later today.
Asner is best known for playing tough workaholic news producer Lou Grant on the beloved '70s sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show as well as its spinoff Lou Grant. Most recently, he provided the voice of Carl Fredericksen in Pixar's Oscar-winning film Up and appeared in HBO's acclaimed drama Too Big to Fail.
News of Asner's hospitalization comes just six days after his Mary Tyler Moore costar Valerie Harper announced she has terminal brain cancer.
