A judge reportedly granted the actress a three-year restraining order against a 43-year-old New Hampshire man today that will prohibit him from coming within 100 yards of the How I Met Your Mother star and her family, writing about her online or otherwise trying to contact Hannigan.
In her petition for a temporary restraining order that she secured in February, Hannigan stated that her alleged harasser, John Hobbs, was "mentally unstable," had possessed a pistol permit since 2000 and had recently been discharged from a mental hospital.
The actress claimed that Hobbs had repeatedly threatened—in postings to Facebook and fan sites—to kill her and husband Alexis Denisof.
"With that said, in 2013 I still can marry you tomorrow. I can kill you tomorrow too. Cause I simply like and love you as you live life. Aly...It doesn't end. Even after death," read a Jan. 3 Facebook post attributed to Hobbs and included in the court filing.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Carol Boas Goodson noted that Hobbs agreed to the terms of the restraining order and that Hannigan's husband and two children also should be protected.
