Barbara Walters Updates The View on Head Injury: Recovery "Going in the Right Direction"

Newswoman said that she expects to leave the hospital as soon as she kicks a fever and doctors give her the all-clear

Barbara Walters is on the rebound.

After falling and cutting her forehead Saturday night while in Washington, D.C., to cover the inauguration, the legendary journalist gave fans of The View the latest on her condition, saying in a statement  cohost Whoopi Goldberg read on the air today that she's doing better and hopes to be released from the hospital soon as a fever subsides.

"First and foremost, I want to thank all the people who have called and written and been concerned about me. I'm most appreciative," said the 83-year-old Walters. "I'm running a low-grade fever and the doctors are keeping me in the hospital until my temperature is normal. I'm pleased to say that it is going in the right direction and I will be home soon."

According to Goldberg, the ABC News veteran missed a step while she was visiting the British Ambassador's residence and cut her upper temple, but doctors stitched her up and she's "fine."

Upon hearing the good news, her fellow panelists offered their best wishes on a speedy recovery and some funny advice.
