Cougar Town always suffered from lack of promotion on ABC, so it only makes sense that the cast would take matters into their own hands. Which is exactly what star Courteney Cox did on Friday during Cougar Town's presentation at the Television Critics Association press tour.
"One difference [this season] is Courteney did declare this year the year of her cleavage," creator Bill Lawrence revealed.
"I'm getting older, and the plan is less focus on the face," Cox chimes in. "I'm focusing [on my cleavage]. By the time I'm much older, I'll be absolutely nude.
That's one way to get viewers. Now on TBS, the cast and showrunners of Cougar Town are pleasantly surprised by the amount of promotion their new home is giving them. "I don't know if you've seen them, but there are commercials for this show now. It's insane," Lawrence jokes.
The promotion and cleavage factor may have changed, but Lawrence promises that the fans will "notice no difference" in show content.
Other tidbits from Cougar Town's panel session:
• Though Busy Philipps is expecting her first child, her pregnancy will not be written into the show. Her bump will be hidden toward the end of the season. "Travis (Dan Byrd) did not knock Laurie up," Phillips promises.
• Jules and Grayson (Josh Hopkins) will try to keep their marriage hot by having a "naked day" in one episode.
• Yes, the title will remain the same. Lawrence now accepts the terrible name as a badge of honor. "Cougar Town had become part of the humor. Why change something that we all appreciate that's part of the show's humor?" TBS boss Michael Wright reasons.
• Mostly, fans can expect the same old comedy, but maybe with a bit more bite. "We know that this show is funny, we like what we're doing, and now somebody wants to embrace it and get the word out," Philipps says. "It was refreshing. I feel like we're allowed to do edgier stuff now."
Cougar Town's new season premieres Jan. 8 on TBS.
