Rumor has it that the Biebs is heading to the altar...and to the Ivy League.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez "were spied closely eyeing some pricy bling in a couple of major jewelry stores." Sources "close to" the teen idols are also "convinced an engagement is in the very near future."

Meanwhile, a gossip site called Socyberty posted an alleged interview with Bieber in which he revealed he was enrolling at Cornell University in the fall.

Contradicting the engagement report, the 18-year-old pop star supposedly took a dig at Gomez, 19: "To tell you the truth, as great of a girl that she is, I really want to try to do college the right way."

So is it true that the "Baby" singer is joining the Big Red for his higher education? And is a Bieber-Gomez wedding in the works?

No and no. These stories are so false.

His rep tells E! News that the "interview" about college and playing the field is a complete fake.

As for his purported proposal to Selena? Team Biebs tells E! News there's no truth to this, either.

But future collegians and future Mrs. Biebers, don't abandon your university and wedding plans just yet: There's still a chance you could one day study with or marry J.B.

Last year, Access Hollywood asked the teenager if he wanted to attend college. "I'm not ruling that out," he responded.

And as long as there's no ring on Gomez's finger, just keep on Beliebing.
