Scream star David Arquette's complicated separation from ex Courteney Cox generated its fair share of ink, but fans were happy to see him making headlines of a happier kind when he officially stepped out with new flame Christina McLarty in January.

And despite the couple's living situation—she's an Entertainment Tonight reporter based in New York, he lives in L.A.—the two found a way to make it work.

But now comes word that the bicoastal gap may have taken its toll.

Is the erstwhile Dancing With the Stars contestant dancing solo these days?

Regretfully, he is. Late last night, Arquette tweeted: "Sadly I'm single again. A long distance relationship proved to be too difficult."

A rep for Arquette confirms his tweet to E! News.

Meanwhile, McLarty tells us: "I'm in NY focusing on my career, and the distance proved to be too much. I wish David all the best."

Arquette and McLarty met at a boat party last summer and starting seeing each other shortly afterward.

The two recently made their red-carpet debut together at a gala in L.A., and when E! News asked him about his new ladylove, he said, "We're serious...but we're having fun."

McLarty, who had previously been involved with Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis, also chimed in, adding, "We're enjoying the moment."

They did, however, hint at the challenges of a long-distance relationship.

"It works out," McLarty explained. "When I'm here we kind of chill. We don't really go out that much."

"We're making it work," Arquette added. "We try to do a no more than two weeks [apart] rule."

Looks like that strain might have finally been too much.
