Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Smash

Smash is wrapping up its filming of the first season, and luckily enough, we just hit the show's New York set to witness all the madness…and get some spoilers from star Megan Hilty and the talented team of songwriters.

And we just happened to be standing in the right place at the right time when someone revealed a surprising Smash character who will be singing very soon...

Anjelica Huston!

Marc Shaiman, one of the genius songwriters behind the music of Smash, was gushing about working with his talented cast when his writing partner Scott Wittman revealed that soon we'll be hearing a number from Anjelica.

"There's a big surprise coming, ladies and gentlemen," Wittman teases. Consider our breath officially bated.

In the scene they were shooting while our own David Burtka visited the Smash set, the Marilyn musical had made it from rehearsals to stage. "We are finally seeing the musical on its feet in front of an audience," Shaiman explains. But who's playing Marilyn?

Well, Megan Hilty sure appears to be in costume as Marilyn, but when she described the number, she could also be someone else in the number or maybe just the understudy. (Hmph!) "We're doing a number that's in the Marilyn musical and it's about all of the Hollywood starlets trying to get with Mr. Zanuck to get a job," Hilty tells us.

We love seeing the Smash numbers on our TV each week, but our ultimate dream would be the Marilyn musical the Wittman, Shaiman and their team is writing to make it to Broadway for real. And they tell us its definitely a possibility.

"I will say that by the end of the season we will have written a complete score, so we'll see what happens," Wittman says.
